"My character is excited." [end of jot]

Do your kids' jots ever sound like the above? One of my teachers reached out and wanted support getting her kids to write more deeply about characters.

Using the bands of text to help think about how character work gets more sophisticated, I created a few bookmarks that readers might use to write more deeply about characters and vary their thinking work. You might also use these to:

⭐Foster conversation during conferences

⭐Support partner and book club talk

⭐Guide writing about reading

⭐Make Buzz Book pages (see previous post!)

Tip: You'll find a color version and a BW version! The color version will allow you to easily scan your classroom and see who is doing similar thinking work to allow for easy small groupings! Alternatively, you can use the B&W version and print on different color cardstock for the same at-a-glance convenience. You might also laminate them so that kids can use dry-erase markers to check off the strategies they try in each book!
