Lesson/Theme Bookmarks for KLM readers.
 
Many of you have asked how to get readers thinking more deeply about the lessons and themes in the text.
One thing to remember is, that as levels of text get more complex, there's a lot more to say about theme.
In lower text bands, the character learns a lesson.
As books get more sophisticated, the life lessons and themes become more nuanced.
Some are on the surface and some are much deeper.
 
If you look across the bookmarks, you'll notice how theme becomes tricker.

Tip: You'll find a color version and a BW version! The color version will allow you to easily scan your classroom and see who is doing similar thinking work to allow for easy small groupings! Alternatively, you can use the B&W version and print on different color cardstock for the same at-a-glance convenience. You might also laminate them so that kids can use dry-erase markers to check off the strategies they try in each book!
